Guatemala, within the Central American region, offers a wide array of fascinating destinations that will satisfy even the most difficult to please.
Guatemala’s strongest asset is to be found in the perfect combination of history, culture and nature.
Beginning with the Spanish colonial heritage in towns such as La Antigua Guatemala (declared a World Heritage Monument by Unesco), preserved almost like it was still stuck in the XVIth century.
Located in the northern jungle region of Guatemala, there are an incredible number of Maya sites. Some of these Maya ruins are easily accessible such as Tikal and Yaxha. Visiting other Maya ruins will require a bit more effort and you might need a four wheel drive and or motorboat to reach them.
An authentic Maya population, the majority spread throughout the Western Highlands, that is still very attached to their traditions and way of living from generations back.
The entire Pacific Coast is one black sand beach, almost untouched by development.
The fact that this tourism destination has strong potential is reflected in the statistics related to the tourism industry. The number of visitors for the first 4 months of 2015 is up by almost 4% compared to the same period in 2014.
This trend will no doubt continue for the remainder of the year and should be even stronger in 2016.
